Five tips on how to eat clean, detox your system and make lasting healthier choices
If you’re reading this you’ll know I’m currently into week three of a 30 Day Healthy Living Plan. I decided to take on the challenge again after a two week break. I realised that I felt so much better when I gave my body a thorough detox and made healthier choices in what I ate and drank. Read my blog on my personal journey here. So here are my top five tips on how to eat clean, detox your system and make lasting healthier choices.
Make a decision
I asked myself whether I felt good, inside and out. Did my clothes fit or were they tight around the waist and chest? How was I sleeping, was I tired, lethargic and lacking energy? Was I eating fast food, processed meals, cakes and drinking endless lattes? It was easy to make the decision – I needed to make a change.
Plan and prepare
Having made the decision, planning the 30 day challenge was key. I emptied the shelves and freezer of the ‘naughties’ and with the support of the recipe book provided I went off to restock with clean, gluten and dairy free options. I also bought plant based, gluten free nutrition products from Arbonne to support the plan.
Have group support
Having support during the 30 days is so important. To have a partner who is open to eating the meals prepared and be generally supportive makes such a difference. It really helps when I have a mini wobble! Sharing with friends that I was ‘doing my 30 days of healthy living’ made it much easier to say no to the glass of wine or latte when offered!
Try new things
This whole experience has encouraged me to be more creative with food. Making homemade burgers with mushroom buns instead of bread, cauliflower, onion and garlic sauce with almond milk in a blender rather than with flour, butter and milk. Healthy salads with protein such as tuna, chicken or turkey rather than sandwiches for lunch. The weekly recipes provided through an interactive and supportive facebook group has been invaluable!
Focus on healthy choices
Creating healthier habits by choosing cleaner, healthier options has made me focus on foods I can have rather than ones I’m not allowed on the plan. Just by simply drinking more water and staying hydrated through the day has made a huge difference!
